Description

A fine 1717 map and birds-eye view of the city of Berlin by Gabriel Bodenehr. This view presented Berlin as the royal Prussian seat. When this map was made, the Kingdom of Prussia was young, having only been established in 1701, and thus something of a novelty for most Europeans. The Russian eagle surmounts the view with armorial crests bearing crowns appearing to either side. The map presents the city's many buildings in such extraordinary detail that most are identifiable - especially those larger public edifices. Explanatory text in German appears to either side of the image.

Condition

Very good. Blank on verso. Original folds. Platemark visible.
