1913 Adickes View Map of the Bronx Zoo, New York City

A rare 1913 chromolithograph view of the Bronx Zoo by William Adickes. Oriented to the east, this extraordinary view offers super detail such that individual animals, from birds to elk, elephants, bison and men, are clearly visible. Various parts of the Zoo and all major buildings are noted. This map is very rare and little known, though we did find this interesting reference form the 1914 Report of the New York Zoological Society:

A panorama or bird's-eye view of the Park in perspective was issued and put on sale in June of this year. This view, which is 15x27 inches, was made in four colors, from an original drawing which required several months in preparation. The price at which it was offered (twenty-five cents) will probably be reduced next season, as the demand has not been up to our expectations.
