Description

A scarce Meiji 8, 1875 Japanese issue map of the Bay of Bangkok, Thailand. This part of Thailand rarely appears on antique maps in any detail – so this is quite a find. The map depicts from the mouth of the Chao Phraya River to the islands of Ko Chaung and Ko Chan at the entrance to the Bay. Offers some inland detail with regard to topography as well as some shading to indicate shallow shoals.
Travelogue
This map was prepared to illustrate an extremely rare Meiji Era Japanese travelogue describing a voyage to Thailand or Siam. We have identified only two other examples of this map located in the archives of the Waseda University Library, Tokyo and the Kyoto University Library, Kyoto.
