Title:    [Untitled Rivers and Mountains Comparison Chart]

Description:    A colorful and playful example of the genre of 'maps' that lay rivers side by side, and mountains side by side, for purposes of comparing their sizes. Mountains are grouped by Eastern and Western Hemisphere. Though difficult to date with precision, this chart is without a doubt one of the earliest examples of the comparative mountains genras and was certainly inspired by the world of Humboldt, with whom Bertuch was undoubtably acquainted. This chart is from Friedrich Justin Bertuch's c. 1811 Bilderbuch für Kinder enthaltend eine angenehme Sammlung von Thieren, Pflanzen, Blumen, Früchten, Mineralien, Trachten.
