1890s View and Fan of St. Augustine, Florida

This is a beautiful c.1890s fan with a view of some famous historic landmarks and hotels in downtown St. Augustine, Florida. Beautifully illustrated, the fan includes images of a crocodile and Ibises in the foreground with photographs of five historic sites. These include hotels owned at one point by Henry Flagler, the founder of Standard Oil.

The first of these is the Hotel San Marco, built in 1885 and destroyed by fire in 1897. The next image depicts the Hotel Ponce de Leon. Built in 1888, the buildings and grounds are today part of the Flagler College. The Hotel Cordova was built in 1888 as the Casa Monica Hotel and renamed the Hotel Cordova after Henry Flagler purchased it in 1889. The original name would be restored to Hotel Casa Monica in 1999. The next image is that of Hotel Alcazar. Built in 1887, the building is now the Lightner Museum. The last image on the fan is that of the Fort Marion Water Battery. Built in 1695, the fort is now known by its original name, Castillo de San Marcos.

Overall the fan gives a beautiful view of the important historic places in St. Augustine, Florida during the late 19th century.
