Sidney Hall (1788 - 1831) was an English engraver who is best known for his fine cartographic engraving. Hall's work found its way into several map and atlas publications by some of the leading firms of the period, including J. Bartholomew and Longman and Company. Hall has a large corpus of accurate and important work relating to the New World and particularly to the United States. Many of Hall's maps advocate boundary disputes with England in favor of the United States. From this we can postulate that, though Hall remained a British citizen to his death, he must have sympathized with the fledgling nation. Hall usually signed his work S. Hall or alternately "Sidy. Hall". Click here for a list of rare maps by Sidney Hall.
