Peter Schenck (fl. 17th & 18th centures)
Peter Schenck (1660 - 1713) was born in Elberfeld, Germany. At a young age he moved to Amsterdam where spent most of his life and where he developed a successful printing and publishing firm. Schenck initially worked as a mezzotint engraver and etcher until, in 1683, he acquired the publishing form of Jan Jansz. He is best known for his prints and etchings, though he also produced a substantial cartographic opus. Following his death in 1713, Petrus Schenck, the younger, moved the firm to Leipzig, Germany.
