1823 Manuscript Celestial Map of the Constellations or Night Sky
Description: One of the most spectacular and whimsical manuscript celestial maps we have ever seen, this is a c. 1823 map of the constellations or northern night sky. Centered the star Polaris, or Northern Star, this map includes countless finely rendered constellations, some common and well known, including those associated with the Zodiac, but many that are quite obscure. each constellation is drawn in a whimsical style that is at once a delicate and fluid. Tough the artist is unknown; this celestial map is likely to have been prepared a schoolmaster or talented student in england.
