Description

This is a very rare 1937 Howard W. Norton and Company city map or plan of Beverly Hills, California. Today Beverly Hills is a byword for the glitz and glamor or Hollywood elites and is one of the wealthies communites in the United States. The map depicts the entire city, as the dark brown line encircling the city represents the city limits. Highly detailed, nearly all the streets within Beverly Hills are labeled, including Sunset Boulevard, Santa Monica Boulevard, Wilshire Boulevard, and Rodeo Drive. Several schools are illustrated and labeled, along with seven city parks and playgrounds. City Hall, the post office, and the chamber of commerce and realty board are also labeled. The different zones within the city, the shopping zone, the apartment house zone, the residential zone, and the industrial zone, are each shaded different colors in an effort to create a better understanding of how the community is organized. A key explaining the various notations used is situated below the map in the lower left corner, next to an index of public buildings, schools, and churches. A street index is included in the upper right corner.

This map was prepared by the Howard W. Newton Company and was published by the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce and the Beverly Hills Realty Board.
