The Cultural Promotion Department of the Czech Communist Party (c. 1949 - 1989) was reorganized several times during its existence. Between 1951 and 1954, there were two departments: the Department of Agitation and Promotion (responsible for party propaganda, party schools, cultural education, the press, radio, and publishing) and the Department of Schools, Science, and the Arts (responsible for materials for educational institutes). In 1955, the Department of Culture was created out of the Department of Schools, Science, and the Arts and was made responsible for the fields of literature, art associations, oil, and education. This department existed until 1956, or about a year, when it was folded back into the Department of Education, Science, and Culture.
