This is a fascinating 1916 Fred R. Mellis map of eastern Oregon, capturing the height of an early 20th-century gold mining and logging boom. The map focuses on Baker, which was then emerging as the regional center of mining, timber, and agriculture. As a diazo (reverse blueprint), the map can only have been issued in small quantities, and its annotation of industry, transport networks, and electrical and irrigation networks suggests it was made for administrative use. An extremely large format 1957 U.S. Geological Survey map of Seattle, Washington and vicinity that renders the densest regional urban areas immediately apparent by shading with them a striking red. Per a note along the bottom border, 'red tint indicates area in which only landmark buildings are shown'. In addition, countless suburban buildings individually illustrated south of Seattle along the Olympic Peninsula. In this part of the metropolis, schools, golf clubs, and cemeteries are identified, along with Seattle-Tacoma Airport and Renton Airport. Kirkland, Houghton, and Renton are labeled along the shores of Lake Washington, and the Lake Washington Pontoon Bridge is labeled as well. A stunning 1945 Kroll Map Company pictorial bird's-eye view map of the Pacific Northwest, the Puget Sound, and the surrounding region, including Seattle, Tacoma, and Olympia, Washington, and Vancouver, British Columbia. Oriented to the west-northwest, the map depicts from the Pacific Ocean to the mountains east of Seattle and from the Canadian Rockies north of Vancouver to Mount Rainier. This is Joly Lindgren's 1940 pictorial map of the Grand Coulee Dam on the Columbia River, Washington. This is a scarce silkscreened example. It is the second of Lindgren's two maps of the Grand Coulee Dam. That Lindgren reissued this map in 1940 is no mistake, for it was that year when the dam began operating and generating electricity, transforming not only the physical landscape but also the economic outlook of the entire region. Lindgren hints at this optimism in his humor, 'To the south lies the Columbia Basin 1,200,000 thirsty acres with a faith in the future'. (more details)

This is a 1948 Ed Pranger bird's-eye view cartoon map of the Yakima Valley, Washington. Yakima appears in the foreground encircled by a dashed line. Yakima's baseball stadium and the Central Washington Fair (marked by a man holding an ear of corn significantly taller than himself) appear in the vicinity.
