People's Liberation Army Pictorial (February 1951 - Present) is a Chinese publishing house and military pictorial magazine created for the army that is also available for public consumption. Founded in February 1951, the calligraphy in the magazine's title was written by by Chairman Mao Zedong himself.It replaced earlier pictorial publications of the PLA Red Star Pictorial (紅星畫報), the Jin-Cha-Ji Pictorial (晉察冀畫報), and the North China Pictorial (華北畫報). Its primary function is to glorify the armed forces, discussing both its history (especially during the Second Sino-Japanese War, or War of Resistance against Japan) and present-day developments. Within the PLA hierarchy, it is under the General Political Department of the People's Liberation Army (中国人民解放军总政治部).
