Noël Cochin (Natalis Cochin, Noé Cochin; June 22, 1622 - 1695) was a French engraver, artist, and printer. He was born in Troyes, Champagne-Ardenne, the son of a painter of the same name. He studied painting under his father, then in Rome, where he specialized in landscapes. At the same time, he likely picked up engraving to supplement his income. He was active in Paris from at least 1660 to 1670. Sometime after 1670, he settled in Venice, subsequent to which all of his work is attributed as 'Noël de Venise.' His students included the Parisian wood engraver Jean-Michel Papillon (1639 - 1723), best known for inventing repeating wallpaper patterns in 1675-76. He is the half-brother of the more famous painter Nicholas Cochin (1610 - 1687). Cochin died in Venice in 1695.
