Dionysius Periegetes (fl. 110-140) Εὐστάθιος Θεσσαλονίκης, literally Dionysius the Voyager or Traveller, also known as Dionysius of Alexandria or Dionysius the African, was the author of a description of the then-known world in Greek hexameter verse. He is believed to have lived in Alexandria during the reign of Emperor Hadrian. His work survived mainly as a schoolbook, intended to teach Greek and (with later translations) Latin.
