Codognato, Plinio

Plinio Codognato (April 13, 1878 - September 30, 1940) was an Italian illustrator and commercial artist. He was born in Verona and studied under the Italian painter Mosè Bianchi (1840 - 1904). In the early 20th century he produced book illustrations and posters, including the famous billboard for Verdi's first performance of Aida at the Arena di Verona. After World War I, he relocated to Milan, where he saw richer business opportunities. There he spent 20 years as the head of advertising for Fiat. In addition, he produced illustration art for Pirelli, Atala, OM, Circuit of Cremona, Cinzano, Campari, Marsala Florio, Liebig and Grafofoni Columbia, among others.
