Selling Us Your Maps
Geographicus actively acquires rare antique maps and is always interested in exceptional material. If you have a map you'd like to sell, the process is straightforward.
Ready to submit? Start with the Pre-Acquisition Form.
Step 1 — Initial Contact
Begin by completing our Pre-Acquisition Submission Form. It asks for basic information and allows you to upload photographs. When photographing your map:
- Shoot in good light — outdoors in natural light if needed
- Include the full map, front and back; remove from any frame if possible
- Add a close-up of the title and any areas of damage or restoration
Step 2 — Our Response
Once we've reviewed your images, we'll follow up by phone or email. If we're interested, we'll ask for your asking price. If you're unsure of value, we're happy to make an offer — though please understand this reflects the map's value to our clientele, not a formal appraisal.
Step 3 — Shipping
If we agree on a price, we'll provide shipping instructions and our FedEx account number — shipping is at our expense. If you're in or near New York City, you're welcome to schedule an in-person appointment instead.
We're unable to issue payment before receiving the map. Offers are tentative until we've examined the piece in person; condition issues, authentication questions, and misrepresentation (intentional or not) are all things we must assess directly. We take these precautions to protect both parties.
Geographicus is a long-standing member of the ABAA and ILAB. You can learn more on our About Us page.
Step 4 — Examination & Payment
Examination takes approximately two business days. Once we've confirmed the map is as expected, payment is issued promptly by check, PayPal, or international bank wire. We do not use cash, Western Union, Venmo, or similar services.
If the map doesn't meet expectations: We'll contact you to discuss. In some cases a revised offer is possible; if not, we return the map at our expense, no questions asked.
