Gill, Alec Cloyd

Alec Cloyd Gill (January 19, 1889 - April 7, 1943) was an American journalist and editor. Gill was born in Homer, Louisiana, and lived most of his life in Washington, D.C. Gill is most often associated with the Hearst Corporation, where he worked within the powerful newspaper network during a period of intense political polarization. Emerging from the tradition of Hearst editorial activism, Gill was known for strongly held anti-communist views, reflecting and reinforcing the broader climate of Cold War suspicion that characterized American media in the 1940s and 1950s. His writing and editorial stance aligned with the era's hardline opposition to perceived subversion, at times echoing themes associated with McCarthyism. He published several anti-communist maps and multiple pamphlets, some in conjunction with the conspiracy theorist and pamphleteer Joseph Peter Kamp (1896 - 1975).
