Gordon of Straloch, Robert
Robert Gordon of Straloch (September 14, 1580 - August 18, 1661) was a Scottish polymath and cartographer. Born to nobility, he was the first graduate of the University of Aberdeen and would later study at the University of Paris. His output spanned from mathematics to music. His cartographic legacy mainly consisted of his Theatrum Scotiae, the first mapping of Scotland based on firsthand survey. Published by Blaeu in several editions beginning in 1648, Gordon's mapping of Scotland became state-of-the-art and was adopted by the cartographic establishment.
