Campen, Samuel Richard Van
Samuel Richard Van Campen (c. 1833 - 1893) was a scholar of the history of Dutch Arctic and Polar exploration and an advocate for further Dutch expeditions to the Arctic. Little is known about his life, but his adeptness with writing in both Dutch and English suggests a life divided between the two countries. He best-known works the two-volume The Dutch in the Arctic seas (1876) and he published additional works on Dutch history and arctic exploration in the closing decades of the 19th century.
