1901 Gies and Company View of Buffalo, New York

A scarce 1901 view of Buffalo, New York issued by Gies and Company. Features a panoramic view of the Buffalo Metropolitan Area as seen from the south and covers from Buffalo Harbor as far north as Lake Ontario with Canada to the left. Niagara Falls, Rainbow Bridge and the Whirlpool Rapids Bridge are also visible towards the top of the view. Various railway lines, buildings, bridges, roads, ships, islands, etc. are beautifully illustrated. Produced for the promotion of the Pan-American Exposition of 1901, the view features the site and buildings for the International Exposition (Buffalo Fair Grounds).

The Exposition is perhaps remembered most for the assassination of President William McKinley. On September 6, 1901 the President was shot and fatally wounded by Leon Czolgosz at the Temple of Music. He would die due to gangrene caused by the wounds on September 14.
