Auguste François Alès (1798 - 1878) was a French draughtsman, etcher, engraver, and cartographer. Born in Paris, he studied under the map engraver Antoine-François Tardieu (1757-1822). In his early career, he engraved maps and romantic landscape views, including a series relating to Poland, which he traveled through extensively.
