John Warner Barber (February 2, 1798 - June 22, 1885) was an American engraver and historian active in Connecticut. Barber was born in East Windsor, Connecticut. He apprenticed as print maker under Abner Reed (1771 - 1866) from 1812, his 15th year, to 1819. In 1823, began publishing religious and historical books in New Haven, many with his own engraved illustrations. He was particularly well known for wood engraving, claiming that he alone of Abner Reed's many apprentices focused on that art.
