Hamilton, Norman Edward
Norman Edward Hamilton (March 7, 1917 - August 16, 1979) was an American artist and World War II veteran. Hamilton was a native of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He served with the 743rd Tank Battalion during World War II and joined the 743rd during its assault on the Siegfried Line. He illustrated the Battalion's four souvenir campaign maps. He also illustrated the Battalion's unit history, Move Out, Verify: The Combat Story of the 743rd Tank Battalion, creating 21 illustrations in three days before he was transferred out of the Battalion. According to this unit history, Hamilton was an artist in Chicago before the war. He also designed the Battalion's 1944 Christmas card. After the war, he worked as a freelance artist in Minneapolis and collaborated on the mystery comic 'Lance Lawson' with Harry Cheney. 'Lance Lawson' ran in the Minneapolis Star in the 1940s. Hamilton was a graduate of the Chicago Art Institute and owned a design studio in Minneapolis called Studio One.
