Description

This is the rare, large-format 1974 Beatles map of Liverpool, published by the City of Liverpool Public Relations Office.
A Closer Look
Although no author is given, the map is executed in the style of Beatles' film 'Yellow Submarine,' the character designs for which were executed by Czech-German artist Heinz Edelmann (1934 - 2009). The map labels locations significant to 'The Fab Four'. Per the National Museums of Liverpool, this is 'one of the first Beatles maps of Liverpool that was ever produced.' It marks the locations where John, Paul, George, and Ringo were born, the addresses where they lived, the schools they attended, and the locations of some of their first gigs. Streets throughout are labeled, including signage for Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields. John, Paul, George, and Ringo are illustrated in their Yellow Submarine personae at the upper right, along with two other characters from the film. The Yellow Submarine itself is depicted in the River Mersey, along with other boats, fish, and seagulls. This large format poster includes helpful instructions for visitors wishing to make pilgrimage to their favorite Beatles shrines via bus, or on foot.
Publication History and Census
This map can more often be found in the smaller (12 x 12 inches) folding format included with the Beatles souvenir package 'From Liverpool to the World.' In this larger format it is extremely rare; it is not listed in OCLC or COPAC.

Condition

Excellent. Some slight edge wear and few areas of smudging, else a superb and remarkable survival.
