1884 Ministere des Traveaux Publics Map of Charleston Harbor, South Carolina

An uncommon 1884 map of Charleston, S.C. and its harbor, prepared by the Ministere des Travaux PublicsAtlas des Ports Étrangers. The map covers from the Rebellion Road channel between Sullivan and Morris Islands and extends inland as far as the city of Charleston and Drum Island. The map is rich both in nautical and inland detail, with many individual towns and even buildings identified. There are countless depth soundings throughout. Most likely the cartography for this work is based upon the work of the U.S. Coast Survey completed between 1866 and 1883.
