Description

A scarce 1698 view of Mexico City, Mexico, by Thomas Doesbergh. The view purports to show Mexico about 170 yeas after the conquest. Here the city has taken on a distinctly European flavor, with many of the original Aztec structures disassembled and replaced with European buildings. Nonetheless, the ancient canal system throughout the city here remains very much in evidence. This view was published to illustrate Carel Allard's very rare town book, Orbis Habitabilis. It was engraved by Thomas Doesbergh
