A Closer Look

The map depicts from Wainscott Pond and Northwest Creek east to Napeague Harbor and Gardiner's Island. Churches, chapels, and schools appear alongside resorts, golf courses, and vignettes of families playing on the beach and in the ocean. Major roads are illustrated and identified. An inset below Gardiner's Island focuses on Main Street East Hampton and identifies churches, the Long Island Railroad station, the post office, the library, and 'home sweet home.' Vignettes of people boating, fishing, and waterskiing fill Napeague Bay. A second, smaller inset along the left border details Sag Harbor and numerically identifies 6 locations around town.

This map was created by an unknown artist and published in c. 1960. We note two examples of a reduced edition with a business directly published by the East Hampton Chamber of Commerce around the same time.
