Florida Highway Pictorial Plesurmap.
1946 (dated) 28 x 21.5 in (71.12 x 54.61 cm)
While the idea of ‘Plesurmaps' never caught on, this charming 1945 map of Florida is indeed a pleasure. The typeface and strategic use of red, as well as the fascinating black and white photos that ring the map, make the map of a must-have for those interested in the area's history and lovers of campy period design. Where else can we see photos of sausages hanging from a tree to advertise 'the Sausage Tree,' a woman holding a huge anaconda to advertise 'The Wishing Well,' and African American children to advertise 'The Lewis Plantation'? Florida, that's where! 'Outstanding Plesurplaces' are listed on verso, alongside, interestingly, a ‘Highway Cuba Map,' showing exactly one road(!), events listings, a county map of Florida, and a US highway map TO Florida. Issued by Joseph W. John and Associates in 1945.
Very good. A few minor verso repairs.
