9.5 x 6.75 in (24.13 x 17.145 cm)
A c. 1790 Italian manuscript notebook with meticulous sketches related to training in geometry, navigation, and astronomy. The workbook contains 22 full page diagrams with subjects ranging from the orbits of planets, to plane geometry, to naturalistic scenes, to comets, and the cosmos, to unusual machinery related to weather prediction. The manuscript work is incredibly detailed and in a fine and practiced hand, suggesting military or naval training. The paper is a fine Italian laid paper with a star watermark and the text 'Bergamo' suggesting that the work may have been completed in northern Italy. Throughout the name 'Santi Tomaso'. While this is simply Italian for St. Thomas, it is also a common name and may or may not reference the artist.
