This is a 1934 Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce and Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket Hotel Association road map of Cape Cod. The map depicts Cape Cod from Plymouth and Sagamore Highlands to the Atlantic Ocean and from Provincetown to Woods Hole, Monomoy, Nantucket Sound, and Vineyard Sound. Inset maps of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket are located along the bottom border.Cape Cod's Roadways
U.S. Highway 6, from Buzzard Bay to Provincetown, is illustrated. Two different types of roads are depicted here: town roads and macadam roads. Macadam roads utilized a revolutionary new road surfacing technique pioneered by John Loudon McAdam. The Macadam roads are red and the town roads are black. Numerous towns and villages are labeled throughout the map, along with different regions of Cape Cod. Along the right appears a list of driving distances, beginning with New York City, Albany, and Boston, and concluding with distances between various towns on Cape Cod.Cape Cod Delights
A list of golf courses and hotels is situated in Cape Cod Bay, with room rates given in both daily and weekly amounts. A short list of summer camps, some for boys and some for girls, is situated in the lower right corner.Publication History and Census
This map was published by the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce and the Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket Hotel Association in 1934. We note two examples cataloged in OCLC which are part of the collections at Harvard University and the Newberry Library.Condition
