Description
This is a charming c. 1950 Southern Tours, Inc. pictorial map of southern Florida. The map depicts the region from Georgia to the Everglades and from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico. Created as an advertisement for the Complete South Florida Tour operated by Southern Tours, Inc., the itinerary of the motor coach tour is illustrated. Beginning and ending in St. Petersburg, the tour advances in counterclockwise fashion around South Florida, visiting cities and towns along the Gulf coast, including Sarasota, Venice, Fort Myers, and Naples. Each city is illustrated by a small vignette. Time is spent exploring the Everglades, represented by a flamingo, a crocodile, and two people in a canoe. Finally, the tour reaches Miami, its southernmost point, where golf and pam trees abound. From here, the journey through South Florida turns northward along the Atlantic coast, stopping in Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, among other cities, before turning west near Fort Pierce and visiting Lake Okeechobee. Eventually, the tour ends back in St. Petersburg. Numerous charming vignettes and illustrations line the tour route, creating a very appealing presentation.
