This is an unusual and attractive 1901 board game of the United States, called the United States Game by the Parker Brothers. Considered one of the best of the Parker Games, it consists of a game board featuring the map of the United States. The game board depicts the continental United States (thus excluding Hawaii and Alaska) and features beautiful illustrations of farms, cities, forests, parks, mountains, and rivers, along with ships playing the waters along the coastlines. Also illustrated are the cotton plantations of the South, the mining of the mountain regions, cattle raising, green fields of the central west and many other characteristics throughout the country. The game represents tours across the Continent, with the principal railroads featured as the routes of travel. Cities are represented with dots, with major cities indicated by red dots.
The game is meant for 2 or more players, with one starting from New York and the other from San Francisco. Each player gets a ticket or a card (westbound or eastbound, depending on where they start from) indicating the cities they must stop at on the way to the opposite coast. The player to reach the opposite coast and return to the starting city first, wins the game.
The westbound and eastbound tickets are not included, but can easily be created based on the routes shown on the map. This board game was created by the Parker Brothers of Salem, Massachusetts in 1901.
Very good. Edges and centerfolds show minor wear. Mounted on thick board. Some foxing at places.
