Title

Kellogg's Wheel of Knowledge Interesting Facts about the United States.
  1931 (dated)     6.5 x 6.5 in (16.51 x 16.51 cm)

Description

This is a 1931 Kellogg's Wheel of Knowledge. This map or chart is a spinning wheel attached to some cardboard. Around the rim of the wheel are the names of the 48 states (Alaska and Hawaii were not yet states in 1931). Boxes of Kellogg's cereal appear in the corners: Pep Bran Flakes, Corn Flakes, Rice Krispies, and All-Bran. As one spins the wheel, the arrow points to one of the states and informs the user of some useful information about the selected state.

Below the name of each state along the wheel are the nickname of the state (some of which have changed since 1931) and the number which corresponds to the map located on the wheel. This little map allows for easy identification of each state (they are numbered alphabetically) and it is also divided by time zone. A sketch of the United States Capitol is situated to the right of the map. To the left of the map, some information about the continental United States is given. Below the map, information about the selected state is shown. The capital of each state, its population, an important city of other than the capital and its population, the population of the state, and the state's rank in population and in size are included. Each state's principal river, area in square miles, and the year it entered the union are also given. On the verso, a texted entitled, 'Wise eating makes healthy, active bodies' appears along with instructions on how to get your own copy of this chart. Illustrations of a boy playing basketball and a girl jumping rope are also present on either side of the text.

This map or chart was copyrighted by A. Knapp of New York City and distributed by Kellogg's in 1931.
