Sagano Hikotarō (嵯峨野彦太郎)
Sagano Hikotarō (嵯峨野彦太郎; fl. c. 1886 - 1928) was a dynamic cartographer of the Meiji and Taisho eras who made over one hundred maps in his career, mostly dealing with different cities and regions of Japan, especially Tokyo and Hokkaido, but he also made at least two maps of China.

This is a scarce 1895 map of Taiwan, prepared and published by Sagano Hikotarō. Issued as Japanese forces occupied the island and suppressed resistance in the wake of the First Sino-Japanese War (1894 - 1895), this map marks the rapid Japanification of Taiwan in the first half of the 20th century.
