This is an attractive c.1937 map of Bermuda published by the Chamber of Commerce, St. George, Bermuda. The map covers Bermuda or the Somers Island in beautiful detail, noting towns, parishes, important roads, islands and railways. Several illustrated vignettes of ships, lighthouses, golfing, etc. are depicted throughout. Along the bottom border, an illustration of a train and a pirate are featured next to the title cartouche. A short description of the St. George Harbor in included on the left of the map with a picture of the harbor.
Although the map is not dated, the text refers to the Hamburg-American Line’s S.S. ‘Reliance’, which had apparently been ‘making use of the facilities of the Harbor of St. George during the last few weeks’. Since the S.S. Reliance was gutted by fire in August 1938 in Hamburg, this map can be dated to sometime in 1937, when it started docking in Bermuda. This map was issued by the Chamber of Commerce, St. George, Bermuda.
Very good. Minor wear and creasing along original folds. Minor spotting and edge wear.
