Description
This is a c. 1960 Comité Professionnel du Bourgogne pictorial tourist map of Burgundy (Bourgogne), France. One of France's main wine-producing regions, Burgundy is divided into the Côte-d'Or, Chablis, Beaujolais, Mâcon, and Côte Chalonnaise regions. The region is also known for Dijon mustard and Charolais beef, as well as the Burgundian dishes boeuf bourguignon and coq au vin.
A Closer Look
Depicting from Saint-Florentin south the Lyon, bright green areas immediately draw the eye, drawing attention to the principal wine-producing regions. Cities and towns throughout Burgundy for which an appellation d'origine is named are underlined in green. A dark green line traces the itinéraires viticoles, or viticultural itinerary. Pictorial vignettes celebrate Burgundy's magnificent architecture, highlighting chateaux, cathedrals, and a cloister in Charlieu. Red lines trace national highways and other roads. Light green wine bottles point the way to Paris, Vichy, Dole, Belfort, and the Alps. The entire map is superimposed over an illustration of a grape vine, complete with leaves and a bunch of grapes.Verso Content
