Description

This is a c. 1927 large-format mechanical postcard map celebrating Charles Lindbergh's transatlantic flight. It is a playful novelty production, with Lindbergh's plane Spirit of St. Louis attached to the card by a brad such that it can slide across the card on a track from New York to Paris.
Lindbergh's Historic First Solo Transatlantic Flight from New York to Paris
The historic flight from New York to Paris began in San Diego, where Lindbergh picked up Spirit of St. Louis, which he then flew across the country to Long Island. He departed Roosevelt Field, Long Island, on May 20, 1927, and landed at Le Bourget Airport north of Paris 33.5 hours later on May 21. He returned to Washington, D.C., on June 11 after being feted in Belgium and Great Britain.
