1885 (undated) 14 x 10 in (35.56 x 25.4 cm)
This is a beautiful c.1885 bird’s eye view or map of New York City, issued in the German Illustrierte Welt. The view covers the entire Island of Manhattan from Battery Park north as far as the Spuyten Duyvil Creek and beyond. Parts of Brooklyn, Williamsburg, Long Island City, Hoboken and Jersey City are also included and identified in the right and left margins. The map was built to illustrate the newly constructed Brooklyn Bridge, which is shown to be disproportionately larger. Multiple sailboats and ships can be seen in the Hudson River and the East River, as well as in the Harbor. This view was issued in the German Illustrierte Welt, published between 1853-1903 by the Union German Publishing Company.
Very good. Minor toning and spotting.
