A Closer Look
Coverage embraces the United States, Central America, Mexico, and South America. Countries are shaded according to political boundaries and topography, with major cities located. Throughout, pictorial vignettes illustrate the primary export products of each nation. The border features national flags and illustrations of that country's founders and other political leaders. In the seas around the map, we can see the 'Sea Hound' (sailing yacht), 'Sky Hound' (airplane), and the 'Spray Hound' (motorboat), Captain Silver's three adventuring vehicles.Adventures of the Sea Hound
Adventures of the Sea Hound was a popular radio adventure show that aired in the United States from 1942 to 1951. The show followed the exciting escapades of Captain Silver and his crew aboard the Sea Hound, a fast-sailing yacht navigating through dangerous waters during World War II (1939 - 1945). Aimed at younger audiences, the show blended thrilling action with patriotic themes as Captain Silver fought against Axis spies, pirates, and criminals, aligning with the wartime atmosphere of the era. Originally broadcast on the Blue Network, the series transitioned to Mutual Broadcasting in 1946 and to ABC in 1948. It was part of a broader trend of adventure radio shows that captured the imaginations of listeners across the country. Its success even led to a short-lived comic book adaptation, extending the legacy of the Sea Hound beyond radio.Publication History and Census
