Incredible 19th century Czech Map of Bohemia.

This 1870 Josef Erben political and topographical map of Bohemia came directly to us from Prague and is a very rare find outside of the Czech Republic. Prague (Praha) is clearly visible near the center of the map and all the towns with a population above 300 people have been included on the map. All roads, railways, parishes, filial churches, and monasteries are noted on the map, as well as all post and telegraph stations. There are two decorative cartouches at the bottom of the map, one on the left and the other on the right. The cartouche on the left contains the title of the map, Professor Josef Erben's imprint, and the names of other contributing authors. The cartouche on the right contains demographic information. A legend is located to the upper-left.

Josef Erben was a Czech statistician who also made maps. This map is his most famous and is part of the collection of the Czech Academy of Sciences. There are very few examples in known collections. This map is cut in 32 sections, backed on linen, and comes with its original cover.
