Description
This is an uncommon art nouveau map of the Italian Lombard lake region, including Lake Como, Lake Maggiore, Lake Lugano, and nearby Lake Garda. The map features an attractive art-nouveau style borer and rich chromolithograph color to illustrate terrain. Roadways are highlighted in red. In the upper quadrants of the map the scale rapidly diminishes to illustrate connections to the great capitals of Europe, including Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, and London. The verso features a map of Milan and advertisements in several languages of Phytin, a calcium magnesium slat high in phosphorus being promoted by the map's maker as a cure-all. While the map is not dated, it is stylistically consistent with the 1950s. We have not isolated any other examples.
Condition
Good. Some verso reinforcement and repair along original fold lines. Map of Milan on verso.
