  1836 (undated)     33 x 32 in (83.82 x 81.28 cm)

Description

A scarce an unusual c. 1836 ensign or flag chart printed on fabric. Flags of interest include the Lone Star Flag of Texas, the ensign of the British East India Company, and the 20-star U.S. Flag of 1818. A large Royal standard of the United Kingdom appears at center. Larger flags in each corner represent, clockwise form upper left, Prussia, Spain, France, and the United States. An annotation near the Japan flag comments that each 'prince' has his own flag.
Publication History and Census
This unusual flag chart is printed in lithograph on linen. It was issued, likely in England, in the late 1830s, based upon the inclusion of the Lone Star Flag of Texas in use from 1836 - 1839. Unverified provenance to a Nantucket whaling family. Rare, with no other examples known.

Condition

Average. Fabric heavily damaged. Laid down and stabilized. Fresh edging.
