Revisionist Prophecy.

Title

Gordon-Michael Scallion's The Future Map of North America.
  2002 (dated)     26.5 x 38 in (67.31 x 96.52 cm)     1 : 10000000

Description

A striking example of Gordon-Michael Scallion's 2002 doomsday map of North America. Scallion (1942 - ?) is a futurist, spiritualist, and 'prophet' who predicted a series of cataclysmic astronomical and seismic events would occur between the issue date of this map, 2002, and 2012. This map offers an exceptionally granular breakdown of Scallion's predictions for the United States and a newly extended timeline - it is somewhat revisionary, issued one year after his earlier maps predicted these events would come to pass.
A Closer Look
The map describes itself as 'North America' though it is decidedly U.S.-centric, including only adjacent parts of Canada and Mexico. It presents a topographical map of the region overlayed with contemporaneous political boundaries and Scallion's predictions. These include three major seismic upheavals causing 'fractures' which, over the decade, would inundate most of the American West, including the Rocky Mountains. Other significant changes include the inundation of most of the East Coast and a significant widening of the Mississippi and St. Lawrence river valleys. The Great Lakes merge into a massive inland sea connecting via a new major river, named 'America's River', with the Pacific, now reaching well into Colorado. (We cannot help but recognize a similarity with the speculative 18th cartography of Guillaume de L'isle, Nicholas de L'Isle, and Phillip Buache, who postulated a massive 'Sea of the West' roughly occupying the same region, or even more curiously, the apocryphal Verrazzano Sea, which appeared on many 16th century maps of America, including those of Sebastian Munster.)

Scallion's prophesies are outlined at right (along with a disclaimer), as well as in annotative text blocks throughout the map.
Scallion's Dream-Prophecies
Scallion's predictions included a polar shift leading to the near total inundation of Europe, significant parts of Asia, much of European Russia, China, Japan, and South America. He also predicted Antarctica would become a warm, fertile land, Atlantis would rise from the sea (in 3 places), and the mythic Pacific continent of Lemuria would also emerge (in 2 places). Among his non-seismic predictions were a Holy War in the Middle East (got this one right) and that a blue star would turn the people of Earth blue, granting psychic powers. Starting about 1982, Scallion issued several maps illustrating his visions - often overlaying the current world map to offer greater clarity.
Publication History and Census
This map was prepared and published by Gordon-Michael Scallion in 2002. The map was first issued in 1982, with the present example being the third edition. It was distributed through Matrix Institute's Earth Changes Report.

Cartographer

Gordon-Michael Scallion (September 26, 1942 - 20xx) is/was (?) an American futurist and modern-day 'prophet' best known for his doomsday predictions of a cataclysmic series of events ranging from a polar shift to major changes to the Solar System to meteor strikes. He is often compared to another American 'prophet' Edgar Cayce (1877 - 1945). Scallion began his career as an electronic consultant. In 1979, during a routine client meeting, he suddenly lost his vision and hearing. While being rushed to the hospital, he had a series of visions relating not only to his personal future but to coming global events, ranging from political shifts to apocalyptic doomsday scenarios. Some call this kind of event a 'psychic awakening'. Scallion's visions, which he attributed to 'The Matrix' (?), persisted until at least 1991, likely longer. Some of his 'successful' predictions include the 1984 Mexico City earthquake and the 1988 election of George Bush as president. To disseminate what he believed were significant warnings for humanity, Scallion established the Matrix Institute and, as early as 1982, began publishing a series of 'Future Maps' of North America and the world. These high-quality productions underwent multiple editions and updates as some predicted events failed to occur, and his visions evolved. Although always extreme, his predictions became more so over time. These will include the re-emergence of the lost civilizations of Lemuria, Mu, and Atlantis and the arrival of a 'blue star', causing the people of Earth to turn blue and acquire psychic powers. Scallion may still be alive. We find traces of activity until about 2011, after which he vanishes from public record. The Matrix Institute website is defunct and for sale. More by this mapmaker...
