Description
A rare and enormous 1867 or Tongzhi 6 Chinese map of Qing China. The map covers all of China including Hainan and Taiwan. It is divided into 18 provinces and the great wall is clearly delineated along the top of the map. The map is crisscrossed by a grid of longitude and latitude lines. Rivers, lakes and towns are identified throughout offering a clear picture of just how important river commerce was to Qing China. This map was issued during the reign of the child Emperor Tongzhi, famous for being overshadowed by his powerful mother, the Empress Dowager Cixi. The map is quite scarce and we have been able to identify no other known examples.
Condition
Very good with minimal worm damage. Slight wear on original fold lines, especially at fold intersections where, in some instances, there is very slight loss.
