This is an attractive c.1890 panoramic view or map of the Middle Rhine River in Germany issued by Gerhard Blumlein and Co. The birds eye view or map follows the Rhine River from Mainz to Cologne, with pictorial descriptions of various landmarks, monuments, ruins, castles, churches and cities along the way. This extended view features 65 beautiful illustrated pictorial vignettes, including Flora in Cologne, Munster in Bonn, Dom in Cologne, Theater in Cologn, Hammerstein Ruin and Andernach, among others. The whole is extremely detailed with important buildings and landmarks shown in profile. Numerous ships appear traveling on the river, with villages and towns adorn the banks. Two full-page view of Mainz and Cologne are also included on either end of the panorama.
This region, today a UNSeCO World Heritage Site known as 'The Romantic Rhine', is one of the most scenic parts of the river, featuring the dramatic Rhone Gorge as well as more than 40 castles and fortresses, vineyards, and quaint country towns. The map is accompanied with a 16 page guide book with interesting information about the region in French, German and English. This map was issued by the Gerhard Blumlein and Co. in c.1890.
