This is a 1955 British War Office map of Singapore and Johor Bahru (Johore Bahru), # 4690. This map centers on the island of Singapore and depicts Johor Bahru and the surrounding areas of the extreme southern tip of the Malaysian peninsula. The border between Malaysia and Singapore is depicted, as well as state, district, and parish boundaries. The map has superb topography, as well as detailed information about vegetation. Countless buildings are depicted and line all major roads. Airfields and the naval base are also identified. The grid is coded in yards north and east.
This chart was created by the Geographical Section of the General Staff and published by the War Office. This is map Number 4690, Sheet Number 3L/I2, First Edition. The copyright says 1950 on the left, but the notice on the bottom right reads, 'Reprinted from GSGS 4203 Fifth Edition by War Office 1953, (which has been struck through, and followed by 1955) ' Our presumption is that the War Office changed the numbering system of their maps in 1953, which explains why this map is stamped 'first edition.' Since the map is an updated 1955 version, this may explain the continued use of 'first edition.'
Very good. Wear along original fold lines. Blank on verso.
