This is a fascinating example of the 1804 Joseph ellicott map of the village of Buffalo, New York. Covers eastward from Lake erie, focusing on the downtown area of Buffalo. Upper left quadrant contains an inset of the Map of the Village of New Amsterdam - as it was christened by ellicott – (now the City of Buffalo). Joseph elicott, city planner and surveyor for the Holland Land Company, designed and laid the grid system. The same grid system can still be seen in the downtown area. Divided into multiple small lots with their sizes in acres, these lots were sold through the Holland Land Company from 1801. Map is highly detailed and street names and locations of piers and dams are noted. Map is created by Joseph ellicott for the Holland Land Company in 1804 and printed by Richard H. Pease in Albany.

Good. Original fold lines visible. Blank on verso. Typical wear and toning along original folds. Left and right bottom quadrants and upper right quadrant exhibit some discoloration. Professionally flattened and backed on archival tissue.
