Description
A scarce and colorful large format map of India illustrating fauna. This richly illustrated map covers India from the Himalayas to Sri Lanka and from the Indus Valley to Burma. It is lavishly illustrated with animal life typical of the region. There is a smaller map in the lower right focusing specifically on the wildlife of Bengal. Animals are illustrated pictorially and associated with a numerically delimitated table in the lower left. The table in the lower left identified the names of animals in English, Bangla, and Hindi.
The map is undated, but it must have been issued around 1947, when the Chandy Charan Dass firm was first established. The map was printed by Eagle Lithographing of Calcutta (Kolkata), another firm associated with the Dass family.

The company is known for educational materials, album covers, travel posters, World War II propaganda posters, and more. The firm appears to have been founded by and remains in the hands of the Dass Family to this day.
