  1930 (dated)     16.5 x 22.25 in (41.91 x 56.515 cm)

Description

This is a rare 1930 Perin Gift Company pictorial map of Mother Goose Land. The central image depicts Mother Goose flying on her goose, and numerous nursery rhymes are illustrated. Beloved classics, such as 'Hey, Diddle Diddle', 'Jack and Jill', 'Humpty Dumpty', 'Three Blind Mice', 'Little Miss Muffet', and 'Little Bo-Peep' are all illustrated, along with several others. The goose is flying over a body of water, allowing the rhymes 'I Saw a Ship a Sailing', 'Three Wise Men of Gotham', and 'Rub a Dub Dub' to appear as well. A cartouche, situated in the lower right corner, bears a short poem which appears to have been written specifically for this map. It references a handful of nursery rhyme characters by name, and states that many more are 'waiting for you on Mother Goose shore'. Manuscript notations are also included in the cartouche, and read 'This is the property of Kalliope Garou Feb' with a date that we believe to be 12/25/37, making this map a Christmas present. A frame consisting of vignettes of even more nursery rhymes and poems encircles the central illustration. These include 'Rock A-Bye Baby on the Tree Top', 'Three Little Kittens Lost Their Mittens', 'Mary Had a Little Lamb', 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star', and 'This Little Pig Went to Market', among others.

This map was created and published by the Perin Gift Company in 1930. This is an incredibly rare and charming piece and is not registered in the OCLC.
