Incredible 1900 city map or plan of New York City.

This is a 1900 Broadway Central Hotel map or guide of New York City. The map depicts Manhattan from Battery Park to 96th Street, as well as parts of New Jersey, Brooklyn, and Queens. The map details ferry and rail lines in and out of Manhattan, as well as elevated, cable, and cross town car lines. There are several unique qualities to this map, such as the fact that the Brooklyn Bridge is labeled simply as 'Suspension Bridge' and the Williamsburg Bridge is a manuscript notation. All the major parks in Manhattan jump off the page, such as Washington Square, Union Square, Bryant Square, and of course Central Park, since they are shaded green. Grand Central Deppt and, of course, the Broadway Central Hotel, are impossible to miss. Ellis Island and Governor's Island are labeled, but Liberty Island is labeled as Bedloe's Island. On verso are notes on NYC tourism and history, with the lion's share of space devoted to a fascinating section on 'The Great Hotels of New York,' which only focuses on one hotel, namely, the map publisher, 'Compliments of the Broadway Central Hotel,' located at Broadway and Bond. We are told that the hotel is not only the grandest hotel in the city, both quiet AND centrally located, (unlike those lesser hotels that are moving uptown), they offer the now surrealistically low rate of $1 a night.

This map was published by the Broadway Central Hotel.
